Shooting Stars 13U won the Summer Spectacular Tournament in Columbia, MD this past weekend (June 26-27, 2010)!
The Stars overcame two rough starts in two close games to close out the pool play on Saturday undefeated. In the first game, it took a game winning double by Kailey Liverman (2nd, Catcher) to overcome a two run deficit and take the game against the HCYP Liberty 5-4. In nearly a duplication of efforts, the winning run was scored on a walk off single by Kacie Kondrotis against the Southern Maryland Xplosion 5-4.
The team overcame tough heat and rock hard infields to continue their winning streak into the Championship bracket by beating an overheated Calvert Firestorm and a feisty Harve de Grace Chiefs by a run total of 23-9 to earn another battle against the HCYP Liberty. The outcome was a little different as Leah Pearson's strong pitching kept the strong Liberty hitters from getting too many runners on base. The team held it together in the heat while the Liberty defense wilted in the heat against the tough Stars offense.
